A graduation cap with balloons attached was a sign of solidarity worn by seniors at East Rockaway High School, fourteen of which were barred from attending their commencement and prom following a June 14th water balloon throwing incident between seniors and school administrators. Many seniors wanted to sign a petition to allow the seniors involved to attend the events but were dissuaded to do so by their parents for fear of retribution by the school. (June 24, 2011)
