The U.S. Coast Guard station in East Moriches got a new search-and-rescue boat on Tuesday.

The 24-foot shallow water craft is designed for use in rescue efforts, law enforcement and security.

According to a news release, the craft is capable of reaching speeds of more than 40 miles per hour, tow vessels weighing up to five tons and only sits two and half feet deep in the water.

The addition is part of a nationwide process to upgrade the Coast Guard’s aging fleet with newer vessels.
