A rescue response crew pulled four people from a boat that capsized just east of Moriches Inlet on Friday night, according to the Coast Guard.
The 21-foot boat began taking on water about 6 p.m. Friday. The passengers on the boat were trying to bail out their vessel when they were struck by a wave and capsized, according to the Coast Guard.
All four were pulled onto a Coast Guard boat from the Moriches Station.
“They did the right thing,” Mark Averill, a search and rescue specialist with Coast Guard Sector Long Island, said in a news release. “They were their wearing life jackets and they stayed with the boat.”
The passengers, who have not been identified, were taken to South County Medical Center for observation.
