The Moriches Community Center is hosting its ninth annual Santa’s Workshop and asking for donations of money and toys to help the 26 local families that are seeking help this holiday season.
Kathleen Johnson, 55, of Center Moriches and co-executive director of the Moriches Community Center, said the organization works with local schools and service organizations to collect a list of families and their wishes for Christmas.
“The need is quite great,” Johnson said. “You can tell the need is great based on the basic needs and essentials many are asking for.”
Pots and pans, dishes, blankets and towels, are the basic needs that many families are seeking.
The Bridgehampton National Bank has a tree set up inside their facility, with the age, gender and wishes of a child in need. The Suffolk County National Bank is also hosting a toy drive.
“We are blessed to live in a community where all ages are willing to give back,” said Johnson. “It’s a great thing that we live in a community with so many generous people, and can take that generosity and put it to good use.”
The Moriches Community Center will be hosting a gift-wrapping session at Clayton Huey Elementary on Saturday from 8 to 11a.m., and will be distributing the gifts to the families.
If you would like to donate money, send checks to the Moriches Community Center, P.O. Box 22, Center Moriches, NY 11934, or donate directly to the community center’s PayPal account on its website.
If you would like to deliver toys and gifts, you could contact Kathleen Johnson at 631-878-3267.
