Comsewogue students needed for cleanup

The Port Jefferson Station-Terryville Civic Association is looking for student volunteers to help clean up Norwood Avenue.

The avenue is the gateway to Norwood Elementary School and “needs some TLC,” said Maria Pereira, a member of the civic association. Pereira said the cleanup was the idea of her children, Norwood graduates Bryan, 13, and Deanna, 11.

Pereira said the cleanup will be the first in a series of beautification events. She said students who particiate will “know they have something they can be proud of, that they did something for the neighborhood.”

The cleanup project is open to students in the Comsewogue school district, Pereira said. Students must be accompanied by an adult, she said.

The project will begin at 3:30 p.m. on April 8 at the playground and sidewalk near Norwood Avenue Elementary. Students interested in participating can call Pereira at 631-331-6294 or e-mail mariapt95@msn.com.
