Cops: Bank robber may have been woman impersonator

A Suffolk Federal Credit Union branch in Islandia was robbed Tuesday by either a woman or a man dressed as a woman, Suffolk police said.

At 1:12 p.m., the suspect approached a teller at the bank, at 1282 Motor Pkwy., with a note demanding money. The teller complied, and the robber exited the front door and fled on Bridge Road.

The suspect had a long ponytail and was wearing a dark knit ski cap, a black hooded sweatshirt -- possibly with an eagle design on the front -- and black-and-white sunglasses with rhinestones.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
