Cops distribute food in Bay Shore today

The Suffolk County police and New York State Police will be passing out 500 free frozen turkeys, chickens and hams today as part of the fourth annual Cops Who Care food drive.

From 1 p.m. until supplies run out, the food will be distributed at PRONTO of Long Island at 128 Pine Aire Dr. in Bay Shore. PRONTO provides food and clothing for the needy in the Bay Shore area.

The 7-Eleven Corp. is donating coffee and doughnuts for the event. King Foods is donating refrigerator trucks and $500 for food as well. The total cost of the food drive was $7,500, according to Suffolk police.

The money was raised by organizations such as the Suffolk Police Hispanic Society, Suffolk Police Benevolent Association and Suffolk Police Veterans Association.

The food drive is first-come, first-served and no registration is necessary. For more information, contact Suffolk Det. Lt. Bob Donohue at 631-852-6191.
