Decision postponed on Water Mill sailing club

The Southampton Town Board agreed today to postpone a decision on whether to allow a not-for-profit organization to run a sailing club on town-owned land at the end of Bay Lane in Water Mill.

Bram Weber, a Melville attorney representing homeowners opposed to the club, said the town has not addressed basic issues, such as lack of bathroom facilities and parking on a pristine area of Mecox Bay.

The town assistant attorney who presented the plan, said facilities can be used at nearby Scott Cameron Beach, but Judy White, a member of Mecox Bay Association, said those facilities are more than two miles away.

The board postponed the hearing until June 14 to allow officials to gather more information and to gain approval of a wetlands permit from the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
