The developer of a long dormant Wendy’s restaurant in Smithtown might be trying to jump-start efforts to complete construction of the fast-food eatery.

DiCanio Management Corp. of Smithtown has submitted plans to move a proposed septic system to a different part of the property on Jericho Turnpike, Town of Smithtown planning director Frank DeRubeis said.

The mostly completed restaurant has been empty since construction halted several years ago.

The restaurant’s original site plan had called for a septic discharge tank to be installed closer to Jericho Turnpike.

But construction was stopped when substantial clay deposits were discovered where the tank was to be built, DeRubeis said. Clay is not pervious and so is not suitable for a septic system, he said.

DiCanio officials are asking the town board to approve a new site plan that moves the discharge area to a different part of the property, DeRubeis said. Town officials have not set a date for discussing the matter.

DiCanio officials did not return a call seeking comment.
