The holidays are great for many reasons, and one of them is that we get to write about feel-good stories like this one.
Former Polish prison camp guard Wladyslaw Misiuna, 85, used his position to shield several young Jewish women from the worst Nazi abuses during World War II. One of the women he helped was Rachela Mitzmacher, whose family now lives in Dix Hills. Mitzmacher died in 1997, but her family finally got a chance to meet Misiuna Tuesday at Kennedy Airport.
