The Dix Hills Fire District will hold a special vote Tuesday on a $19.75-million bond for building a new firehouse, maintenance building, training tower and other projects.

Voting will be from 3 to 9 p.m. at district headquarters, 115 E. Deer Park Rd., off the Northern State Parkway.

If approved, the bond would be paid off in 20 years, fire district officials said. The cost for a resident with a home valued at $600,000 would be $145 per year, according to a fact sheet released by the district.

The proposal calls for about $11.2 million to be spent replacing the firehouse at headquarters, which the district says is outdated; about $3 million on a new maintenance building, and about $5 million on a new training tower and other property maintenance items.

The 31,400-square-foot firehouse would include a large meeting room, classroom, kitchenette, TV room, expanded bay area, dispatch room, offices and basement. It would also be energy-efficient and handicapped-accessible.
