Students from Woodland Middle School in East Meadow found a unique way to combine artistic impression and fire safety.

On Friday the youngsters and their art teacher, John Healy, unveiled a mural at the Nassau County Firefighters Museum & Education Center in Garden City. The idea of the piece is to remind small children that firefighters are their friends, since many kids in the panic of a fire may fear firefighters approaching them in their unique gear and masks.

Healy's cousin, Capt. Terrence Hatton of FDNY Rescue Co. 1, was killed on 9/11 and is featured in the mural, along with some of the children’s relatives who are also firefighters.
