As a parent and East Hills resident, Stacy Siegel saw the need for more family events in her community. Which is why she became part of the village's newly formed Kids in the Park Committee and agreed to chair the organization's first holiday party.
“A lot of young families in East Hills felt like there was nothing going on for them and this helped fill a gap,” said Siegel, 41, at the inaugural event on Sunday in the Village Theatre in the Park at East Hills.
About 60 attendees munched on holiday snacks, bought raffle tickets, decorated crafts, had their faces painted and joined in a dance party hosted by Party Connection Entertainment. Raffle prizes included gift certificates from local diners, salons and businesses.
“As an East Hills resident, I feel it’s a privilege to have these events,” said Bradley Feig, who attended the party with his wife and two young daughters.
The festivities kicked off at 3:15 p.m. After several families arrived, DJ Chris Cerell started the dance party with “Baby” by Justin Bieber. There was a guest appearance by Parker, East Hill’s 6-foot-tall cartoon boy mascot designed by the village attorney, William Burton.
The children danced and took pictures in a photo booth with family and friends.
“For a first attempt, it was phenomenal,” said East Hills Deputy Mayor Manny Zuckerman.
