Firefighters from a number of Nassau County fire departments will play a friendly game of football Sunday to raise funds for the Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center.
The third annual such game will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Hofstra University’s James Shuart Stadium in Uniondale. The Point Lookout-Lido and Island Park fire departments will host the game. There is a suggested donation of $5 and there will be 50/50s, raffles, and T-shirts sold at the game. All proceeds will go to the museum, organizers said.
All 71 Nassau volunteer fire departments were invited, although not all are expected to attend, organizers said. There will be guest referees from different departments, they said.
Attending firefighters will sport their turnout gear, and three tiller trucks from Elmont, Glen Cove and Freeport will form a triangle arch where the American flag will be put in place, organizers said.
The event started as a local rivalry football game between the Point Lookout-Lido and Island Park fire departments. The game usually takes place — as it does this year — on the weekend between the NFL conference championship games and the Super Bowl, organizers said.
