First cell tower test in Hempstead

Residents have turned out for a public hearing that will mark the first test of the Town of Hempstead's new ordinance meant to give the town more control over where wireless communications equipment can be sited.

At issue this afternoon is a request by T-Mobile Northeast to install six wireless antennas on the roof of the Farmingdale-Wantagh Jewish Center.

Responding to community concerns, the town on Aug. 3 postponed hearing the T-Mobile application and similar ones while it developed the ordinance, which was passed Sept. 21.
