The Village of Asharoken’s board of trustees has a new member.

Ian Jablonski, 45, was elected to the five-member board during the June election and attended his first board meeting Tuesday night.

Jablonski ran uncontested because incumbent Joseph Catanzano didn’t run.

Jablonski said he has been a village resident for about 12 years and has worked in the finance industry for the last 25 years as an information technology director.

He said he decided to run for the two-year seat because he is friendly with Mayor Gregory Letica and is familiar with some of the village’s issues, such as beaches and the Village Hall, which was destroyed during superstorm Sandy.

He said this is the first time he has served as an elected official and sees it as an opportunity to give back time to his community and “support the mayor.”
