Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy will unveil a new fishing pier at Smith Point County Park during a 1 p.m. Sunday press conference.
The pier is 12 feet wide and 150 feet long, with a solar-powered safety lighting system and a 27-foot-long covered area. The pier is located in the northeast corner of the Smith Point Park parking lot and extends approximately 95 feet north into Narrows Bay.
The $560,000 pier is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The county executive will also provide details about a $5.2 million improvement plan that is now scheduled for the bridge at Smith Point. The county is on the verge of signing an 18-month contract with a firm that will replace and repair sections of corroded steel and concrete beams on the bridge.
Additional work will include painting to prevent additional corrosion and upgrades to electrical and mechanical systems for the drawbridge section.
