A free community health event at the Elmont Memorial Library on Saturday will offer residents services including blood pressure checks, physical assessments, pediatric dental services and adult dental screenings.
Elmont Health Checks will also feature a mammography van where women older than 40 without health insurance can undergo a screening. An appointment is required and can be scheduled by calling 516-571-6203.
The event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will also offer exercise sessions, help with veterans benefits, health insurance and WIC applications, and sessions in food preparation and how to grow a healthy garden.
The pilot initiative was developed by Nassau Legis. John Ciotti and Nassau Health Commissioner Maria Torroella Carney, in collaboration with Arthur Gianelli, president and chief executive of NuHealth, and Randi Dresner, president and chief executive of Island Harvest. It aims to promote access to health care, encourage preventive health screenings, connect residents to available social programs and provide information to help them live a healthier lifestyle, officials said.
Residents who need a follow-up visit will be given appointments at the Elmont Family Health Center.
