A Valentine’s-themed adoption drive at the Brookhaven shelter struck the right chord for 11 dogs and 10 cats who found love with new families.
Called the “Free Love Weekend,” the event featured waived adoption fees, donated pet food and microchipping for Brookhaven residents who adopted animals Feb. 11 and 12.
“It’s great that the Animal Shelter had another successful ‘Free Love Weekend’ this year,” said town Supervisor Mark Lesko in a news release.
“I’m extremely proud that we were able to find homes for 21 animals,” said councilwoman Jane Bonner in the release. “The animal shelter continues to do fantastic work, not only with ‘Free Love Weekend’ but with everything that they do on a daily basis, whether it is finding loving homes for cats and dogs or making sure that those without homes are cared for.”
Along with the adoption drive, the shelter also microchipped more than 40 dogs and cats, said shelter director Dori Scofield.
