Brookhaven officials have scheduled a free rabies clinic on Saturday May 18 for town residents who want to vaccinate their dogs, cats and ferrets.

The town’s animal shelter is slated to hold the clinic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of town hall, at 1 Independence Hill Rd. in Farmingville. The clinic is co-sponsored by the county health department.

There is a limit of 600 vaccinations, and the pets will be treated on a first-come first-served basis.

Dogs must be leashed, and cats and ferrets in pet carriers.
Other services offered at the event include low-cost booster shots, microchipping and registering for dog licenses. Payment is cash only.

“It’s important that pets are vaccinated for diseases, especially rabies,” said town Supervisor Edward P. Romaine in a news release. “I urge residents to take advantage of this opportunity and to make sure that their pets receive a rabies shot. It's the best way to protect your pets, your family and the community from the spread of this dangerous disease.”
