Free skin cancer screenings in Copiague next week

A free skin cancer screening will be held in Copiague on July 18.

It is being sponsored by State Sen. Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. (R-Merrick) and the Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign. The screenings will be conducted by trained dermatologists, who will be available from noon to 3:30 p.m. at Tanner Park in Copiague.

According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common of all cancers and accounts for nearly half of all cancers in the United States. Melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, is expected to account for more than 76,000 cases of the disease this year.

For more information about the free skin cancer screening program, residents can call Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630.
