Stony Brook University Medical Center is holding a free vascular screening on Saturday, July 16, for people 55 or older who have at least one risk factor.
The screening, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Heart Center located off the hospital’s lobby, will be open to people who are current or former smokers or have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease or a family history of aortic aneurysm.
A screening includes carotid ultrasound to check for clogged carotid arteries, which can lead to stroke; abdominal aortic ultrasound, to check for aortic aneurysms; and ankle brachial index, to check for peripheral arterial disease.
Those interested should call 631-638-2100 for a prequalifying interview and to register for the screening.
Walk-in appointments are not available. The medical center will share screening results with an individual’s primary care physician; people with positive test results can arrange for an appointment to see a Stony Brook University Medical Center specialist.
