Comedians aren’t the only people you’ll find at The Brokerage Comedy Club in Bellmore.
“General Hospital” stars Dominic Zamprogna and Chad Duell made an appearance Saturday afternoon at the club to meet with some of their biggest fans.
“We’re here for our fans,” said Zamprogna. “It’s a very different relationship with your audience when you’re in soap operas.”
About 70 “General Hospital” enthusiasts packed the Brokerage for a chance to ask the actors questions about everything from their personal lives to their characters' lives, even some trying to get the scoop on upcoming episodes.
“I mean, we really try and give our fans as much as we can get away with,” said Zamprogna.
Vanessa Vives, a fan of the show for nearly 30 years drove nearly two hours from Orange County, New York to catch a glimpse of her favorite stars.
“They’re definitely in our top list of favorites,” she said. “It was completely worth the drive.”
Although Vives had spent nearly two hours of her day commuting to the event, she had hardly traveled the farthest.
Toby Bell, Liz Burnett and Mindy Cotton came from Indiana, Arkansas and Minnesota, respectively.
“It’s our girls weekend, and it gives us an excuse to get together,” said Bell, “I love it, and I love to see Dominic and have that banter with him.”
Bell, Burnett and Cotton met online discussing their love for “General Hospital” and became fast friends. It wasn’t long before the three ladies traveled to events featuring their favorite soap stars, but they credit Zamprogna’s character, Dante for bringing them all together.
“Dante and Julia [Zamprogna’s on air love interest] are the reason we’re all here, and we’ve made this lifelong friendship,” said Bell, “It’s really special for us, thanks to Dominic.”
Tickets for the event were sold in advance for $75. The price covered the admission to the show, which included a 45-minute Q&A session, and a personal meet-and-greet with both actors.
“These events really give fans a way to see people,” said Linda Rohe who coordinates the entertainment at The Brokerage and also represents Zamprogna and Duell. “We started this in ’93 and it’s just escalated, the fans really love it.”
