Anne Ford, of Port Jefferson Station, couldn't believe her ears when she heard her name called as the grand prize winner of a 2012 Mercedes Benz GLK 4Matic at the 42nd annual Greek Festival in Port Jefferson.

"I can't believe it. I am very excited right now. I have been entering this raffle for the past five years. In the past, I won a Coach pocketbook and some tools. I only bought one ticket this year and won the grand prize.”

Other prizes included a 10-day trip for two to Greece, a 2011 Camaro LS Coupe, a 2011 Hyundai Elantra GLS, a 2011 Chevy Cruze LS, a 2011 Ford Fiesta SE and a 2011 13-foot Boston Whaler motorboat. There were 270 prizes given away altogether.

Hundreds in attendance enjoyed carnival rides and games, live Greek music and dancing and, of course, traditional home-made food.

"We are having a blast. We ate mousaka and gyro. It was really good," said Jennifer Putrelo, of Hauppauge, who brought along her 20-month-old daughter Zoe.

Not even constant rain dampened the spirits of the crowd. "I have been coming here with my family since I was a little boy. The rain wouldn't keep me from coming here," said Dimitri Kreatsoulas, 21, of Wading River.

"It's a great community affair and even people from outside of Port Jefferson attend this festival. It is a great draw for people from all over," added Father Jim Calogredes of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption. “This festival puts everyone in a great spirit."
