The Town of Brookhaven’s fourth annual Great Brookhaven Cleanup will be held on April 16, Supervisor Mark Lesko has announced.
The event - part of a national drive to beautify communities, organized by Connecticut-based Keep America Beautiful - has attracted more than 4,000 town residents in each of the previous years. Past efforts have resulted in the collection of more than 80 tons of waste.
A follow-up event, the Great Brookhaven Plant-In — an effort to renew parks and plant community gardens — will be held on June 4, town officials said.
“Keeping Brookhaven clean is everyone’s responsibility, so we should all chip in,” said Councilman Tim Mazzei.
More than 15,000 communities - and more than 2.4 million volunteers - participated in Keep America Beautiful’s cleanup events last year, officials said. The events happen in March, April and May.
