The League of Women Voters of the Hamptons will set up 15 voter registration sites on the South Fork on Sept. 25 on what is considered the first National Voter Registration Day.
In order to vote in New York State for the national elections, registrations must be completed by Oct. 12.
Organizations across the country, including the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons, based in East Hampton, are participating in the event.
Representatives from the organization will be on hand from 10 a.m. to noon with voter registration forms and absentee ballot applications in both English and Spanish.
The sites are: Montauk Post Office; Cirillo’s Supermarket, Montauk Highway, Amagansett; IGA Supermarket, North Main Street, East Hampton; Waldbaum’s Supermarket, Newtown Lane, East Hampton; One Stop Market, Springs-Fireplace Road, Springs; Twice Upon a Bagel, Montauk Highway, Wainscott; Kmart, Bridgehampton Commons, Bridgehampton; Starbucks, Main Street, Bridgehampton; Schiavoni’s Market, Main Street, Sag Harbor; Waldbaum’s Supermarket, Jagger Lane, Southampton; Rogers Memorial Library, Coopers Farm Road, Southampton; King Kullen Supermarket, Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays; Hampton Bays Library, Ponquogue Avenue, Hampton Bays; Quogue Library, Quogue Street, Quogue.
Hours will be extended from noon to 4 p.m. at the Westhampton Free Library, Library Avenue, Westhampton Beach.
“New York is 47th in the 50 states in terms of voter turnout,” said Anne Marshall, who is chair of the voter services committee for the league. “We are trying to increase the awareness of voting by keeping up-to-date registrations.”
