A Long Beach cleanup drive, which will be followed by wine and food in the city’s West End, is searching for volunteers.
The event to be held Saturday, called the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, is one of 25 nationwide cleanups organized by Modesto, Calif., wine company Barefoot Wine. The event lasts from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a party for over-21 participants from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Surfrider Foundation Central Long Island Chapter, a nonprofit organization, also sponsors the event.
“The Project calls on community volunteers to participate in a local beach, lake or river cleanup, helping to keep Long Island’s shores ‘barefoot friendly’ for all to enjoy,” a spokeswoman for the event said in a statement.
Participants are asked to RSVP at BeachRescue2012.com.
The cleanup begins at the intersection of Edwards Street and the Long Beach boardwalk. The party follows at 906 W. Beech St. in Long Beach.
