Halloween pet parades set for this weekend

At least two towns on Long Island are celebrating Halloween with their furrier of residents in mind.

On Saturday, the Village of Cold Spring Harbor will hold its fourth-annual Howl-Ween Parade Celebration. A costume parade for dogs will begin at 1 p.m. at the corner of Main Street and Shore Road. The parade will end with a local sidewalk street sale. Participants are asked to donate $10 and pet food to benefit the Pet Pantry, operated by Long Island Cares, Inc. - The Harry Chapin Food Bank.

On Sunday, the Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce will host “Paws for a Cause,” a pet parade, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The parade will take place at the Ronkonoma Fire Department on the corner of Portion Road and Hawkins Avenue. The winner of the Scariest Costume contest will win a $50 gift certificate to Pet Supplies Plus, and there will be treats for pets. Donations will be accepted to benefit a local animal shelter. Pets must be leashed.
