Shoreham’s Soundview Drive is a street that seems naturally suited to Halloween. Towering trees loom over the narrow road. Leaves litter the sprawling lawns, and once night falls, the lack of streetlights will leave illumination to the moon.

Caution tape cordons off the Liguori family home, and on the driveway the white chalk outline of a body suggests a troubled past. A collection box stands on the front lawn with a note: Please donate.

David Liguori, 47, and his 12-year-old son, Andrew, designed the haunted walk that weaves around their driveway, front lawn and porch. Together, they have transformed the property into a Halloween nightmare for the last three or four years, Liguori said, but this year Andrew hoped the walk could inspire not just Halloween spirit, but some good.

This spring, David Liguori’s twin brother, Mike, underwent multiple operations and chemotherapy to treat a brain tumor, Liguori said.

“Andrew knew about the brain tumor and that my brother had surgeries,” he said. “He thought it would be a good idea to raise money for them to do some research.”

The money raised from the collection box in front of the house will be donated to the NYU Cancer Institute -- where Mike Liguori, of Setauket, was treated -- for brain cancer research, David Liguori said.

As of Thursday afternoon, the Liguoris had raised $138. The walk will be up and running tonight around 5 p.m. and continue Friday night. It features handmade creations by Liguori and his son, like a motion-sensor simulated electric chair.
