The Hempstead Town Animal Shelter will waive all pet adoption fees, totaling about $100, in celebration of Valentine’s Day from Saturday, Feb. 9, until Saturday, Feb. 16.

An event entitled “My Furry Valentine” will be held Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the shelter, on 3320 Beltagh Ave. in Wantagh. All adopted animals will receive free rabies vaccinations and microchipping, as well as free spaying and neutering, town officials said.

The shelter will set the mood as “Cupid” and a team of qualified “matchmakers” help residents find the perfect dog or cat for their family. Families can have their pictures taken for free with “Cupid” and their newly adopted pal, officials said.

Interested pet adopters are encouraged to bring treats or toys for the shelter animals; those that do will be eligible for a door prize. There also will be raffles and baked goods for sale, with proceeds benefiting the Tails of Hope Fund, an organization helping to fund surgeries for dogs and cats.

Interested adopters can take a look at the shelter’s pets by visiting www.toh.li/animal-shelter. For more information, call the shelter at 516-785-5220.
