Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray has urged residents to sign up for the Swift 911 Emergency Notification System, which can deliver telephone, email or text messages regarding storm evacuations or other dangerous situations within the town.

The computerized telephone calling system can also deliver nonemergency notices when the town’s Water Department conducts pipe flushing, which may cause temporary pressure variations and discoloration.

Only the town’s Department of Public Safety can activate the system and send an alert.
Contact information in the notification database is based on phone directories and other publicly available sources. Residents with unlisted numbers and cell phone numbers they would like included may enter a primary telephone number and up to three alternate telephone numbers. Those who don’t want to participate in the system may remove their numbers.

To sign up or change contact information, residents should visit the town website,, and click the Swift 911 link on the left or request a mail-in form by calling 516-489-6000.
