The fourth annual Healthy Hempstead 5k Run & Walk-a-Thon and Health Fair is scheduled for Saturday, June 25, and will take place rain or shine, according to the village.
The event, sponsored by Hempstead Village, is set to begin at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. The 5-kilometer run and/or walk will begin in front of The Institute for Healthcare Disparities building at 135 Main St.
The health fair, which will feature food, games and other activities, will be held in the parking lot of the Rosa Parks Hempstead Transit Center, between Jackson and West Columbia streets.
“Through education and empowerment, events like this draw much-needed attention to health care disparities,” Hempstead Village Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr. said
Residents can register for the race online here. Registration also will be held on-site from 7 to 8:30 a.m. the day of the race. The fee is $15 for adults and $10 for children in grades K-12. All proceeds will go toward the Hempstead High School Scholarship Fund.
For more information, call Sherina Gonzales in the village’s Community Development Agency office at 516-485-5737, ext. 229. Advance registration will close Friday.
