Adoption fees at the Hempstead Town Animal Shelter will be waived on St. Patrick’s Day for town residents looking to adopt a pet.
This is the first year the shelter is hosting the event, called “Lucky You, Lucky Me,” according to a news release. It will be held on March 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shelter is at 3320 Beltagh Ave. in Wantagh.
Cats and dogs adopted during the event also will receive free spaying or neutering, rabies vaccinations and microchipping, the release said. Adopted cats will be tested for feline AIDS and leukemia as well.
In the release, animal shelter director Cynthia Iacopella encouraged Hempstead residents to visit the shelter and adopt a pet.
“You don’t need a four-lear clover to get the luck of the Irish this St. Patrick’s Day — at the Hempstead Town Animal Shelter, a four-legged friend will bring you joy and happiness all year,” Iacopella said in the release.
The event will also feature a raffle to benefit the shelter’s “Tails of Hope Fund,” which helps fund surgeries and other costs for sick animals, the release said.
