The Hempstead Town Animal Shelter will host two free educational tours Saturday, April 20, to give residents an up-close look at the daily operations of the shelter.

The tours will be given at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the shelter, 3320 Beltagh Ave., Wantagh. The town’s mobile vet clinic will also offer tours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Shelter staff will give lectures on pet care and the adoption process and detail programs in which residents can directly assist shelter animals. A town animal control officer will be on hand to talk about fieldwork and the ways the shelter cares for stray animals.

All visitors who bring treats or toys for the shelter animals will be eligible for a door prize.

There also will be raffles and baked goods for sale, with proceeds benefiting the Tails of Hope Fund, an organization helping to fund medical surgeries for dogs and cats.
