Hempstead Village, schools join for summer tutoring

Hempstead Village and Hempstead Public Schools have partnered to offer a first-ever summer tutoring and enrichment program for elementary school students in an effort to reinforce concepts learned while school was in session.

Village Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr., the village board of trustees, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation George Sandas and school Superintendent Patricia Garcia will make the announcement about the program tomorrow at noon at Kennedy Park (335 Greenwich St.).

The two-hour program was offered to eligible elementary students currently enrolled in kindergarten through second grade, who are performing below the state standards in English language arts and mathematics. The program will take place at Kennedy Park from Monday through Friday, beginning July 5 and ending Aug. 10.

Forms were distributed to parents of students who qualified for the program. The deadline for the forms to be returned is tomorrow.
