Huntington dentist offers cash for candy

A Huntington dental office is offering cash for kids who give up their surplus sweets.

In its second annual program, Huntington Bay Dental is offering $1 for every pound of treats to children accompanied by adults who bring in their excess, unopened Halloween candy.

The candy will be weighed on a scale in the dental office, located at 222 E. Main St., Huntington, from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. through Thursday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday.

As part of the program, the Cpl. Christopher G. Scherer Foundation will donate the candy to the Leave No Marine Behind Project.

Scherer, a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, was born and raised in East Northport and was killed while serving in the Al Anbar province in Iraq on July 21, 2007.

Candy and supplies will be sent to Scherer’s fellow Marines of the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion and to men and women from Long Island in all branches of the Armed Forces.
