For the eighth year, the Town of Huntington will sponsor a Movies on the Lawn program, featuring outdoor screenings of four PG-rated movies.
The season will kick off June 27 at Heckscher Park in Huntington Village with the animated feature “Despicable Me.” On July 20, a drive-in evening at Crab Meadow Beach in Northport will feature “Flipped.” Audio will be available on an FM radio frequency as well as on outdoor speakers.
On Aug. 1, the animated film “Megamind” will be shown at Dix Hills Park on Vanderbilt Parkway; the setting will be the grassy area next to the pool parking lot. And on Aug. 24, “You Again” will be shown at another drive-in event at Crab Meadow Beach.
“Pack up your picnic supper, blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy this summer’s movie lineup,” said Town Board member Mark Cuthbertson, who is hosting the movie program. He advised moviegoers to arrive early because “with every passing year, the crowd of moviegoers multiplies.”
Each movie is scheduled to begin between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Town officials suggest bringing lawn chairs, even for the drive-in performances, in case the parking lot fills early.
Overflow parking will be available for the Crab Meadow Beach shows, and buses will shuttle people to the beach.
In the event of rain, the events will move to the Elwood Middle School auditorium, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Up-to-date information will be available at the town's website and at Cuthbertson’s office, 631-351-3112.
