Ice skate swap in Dix Hills Saturday

Families wondering what to do with outgrown ice-skating equipment can bring the items to a skate swap sponsored by a Huntington Town councilwoman and a group of Huntington students.

The second annual skate swap — held at the town’s ice rink in Dix Hills and sponsored by Councilwoman Susan Berland and the Huntington Youth Council, made up of more than two dozen students from the nine public high schools in the town — is designed to give kids and adults a chance to donate their gently used ice-skating or ice hockey equipment, including goalie equipment and jerseys. For every item donated, the donor will receive a slip good for admission and for one item from the swap.

Donations of equipment will be accepted at the ice rink at 575 Vanderbilt Pkwy. until Friday. The swap will be held at the ice rink from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, during which there will also be two hours of free skate time, donated by Bethpage Federal Credit Union.
