In budget redo, Port Jeff reaches out

After the overwhelming defeat of its budget on May 18, the Port Jefferson school district has created a citizens advisory committee to offer advice on a new budget proposal to put before voters on June 15.

The submission deadline was noon Monday.

The committee will meet on Wednesday, a day before the school board is to meet to adopt a second budget proposal.

The board meeting will be held at the Edna Louise Spear Elementary School, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Port Jefferson's original $37.7-million budget proposal failed, 1,052 to 584.
