In deadly storm, one toppled tree's minor mess

Heavy winds and rain Saturday knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses and caused major transportation problems, while toppled trees blocked roads across the Island.

One woman was killed while walking to her car after a birthday party in Bay Shore when a tree fell on her at about 8:20 p.m.

On Schenck Drive in Shirley, a tree on Mark Lampert property fell on his fence and blocked the road for several hours. Four other trees fell within a one-block radius.
