Unsafe buildings on Main Street, illegal apartments and the Town of Smithtown’s response to Tropical Storm Irene are among the topics to be discussed tonight at a meeting of the Kings Park Civic Association.
The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Kings Park High School. It is open to the public.
The civic association expects to vote on whether to ask town officials to adopt a zoning amendment that would give the town more control over apartments believed to be rented illegally or owned by absentee landlords.
Other topics on the association’s agenda are safety conditions at some buildings in the community’s Main Street business district, a review of how the town handled Irene and committee reports on schools, library construction and the hamlet’s weekly farmers market.
The guest speaker will be Patricia Biancaniello, president of the Commack/Kings Park Rotary.
Biancaniello, a former Democratic town councilwoman and former supervisor candidate, is to discuss the Rotary and its goals.
