Joseph Tilleli, Asharoken deputy mayor, resigns
Asharoken Village trustee Joseph Tilleli, who also served as the deputy mayor, resigned from the board last week, after he received a job promotion that he said would take up much of his time.
“I am not going to be able to devote the time the village needs,” Tilleli said in a telephone interview.
“As you all know Asharoken is a very special place that is near and dear to us all and although I will not be serving as your deputy mayor my door to this village will always be open,” he said in a letter that was read at last Tuesday’s meeting, which he didn’t attend.
Tilleli was on the board for about 2 1/2 years and was re-elected to the two-year post this year.
Mayor Gregory Letica appointed trustee Mary “Pam” Pierce as the deputy mayor and Laura Burke as the new trustee.
Letica said Burke was a former trustee and that she will serve for the remainder of this fiscal year. He said the remaining year of Tilleli’s term will be up for re-election next year, as well as two two-year seats now belonging to trustees Pierce and Joseph Catanzano.
