The Kings Park school board is expected to discuss its response to a community member’s request for an investigation at its board meeting tonight. Board members did not specify the nature of the probe yesterday.
The board meeting, immediately follows an organizational meeting — which begins at 7:30 p.m. at Kings Park High School — to elect a president and vice president and appoint other positions for the 2013-14 school year.
School board president Marie Goldstein said, “A complaint was brought to the board by a community member asking the board of education to look into an investigation the superintendent conducted regarding an employee’s action. The entire board determined the investigation was, in fact, conducted properly by [Kings Park Superintendent] Dr. [Susan] Agruso.”
When asked what the investigation regarded, Goldstein said only, “The board will be reading a statement at the board meeting .?.?. to include details of the findings of the investigation.”
The board is also expected to vote to accept a donation of $19,000 from Johnson Controls for the installation of a new press box, behind the bleachers at Kings Park High School’s football field. The press box is valued at more than $73,000.
“We had a press box before, but it was not usable because it was considered not to be safe,” said Agruso. The box was disassembled last year, she said.
“We’ve now got some aid dedicated to putting the press box up and a company donated the installation .?.?. so it’s at no cost to the taxpayers,” Agruso said.
Goldstein said the new box “will be a very significant upgrade” and thanked school board member Tom Locascio and Sen. John Flanagan (R-East Northport), who she said coordinated and secured the grant money, respectively.
Students and adults will use the press box to call games, make announcements and take photos, Agruso said, adding, “We’re excited and working very hard to get it up by the first football game.”
