Levittown fire department gets $80G grant

The 240-member Levittown Volunteer Fire Department will receive a federal grant of $80,580 to help promote and maintain 24-hour staffing, according to U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer.

Schumer (D-N.Y.), who made the announcement in a release from his Washington, D.C., office said the money will help the department “launch a comprehensive recruitment and retention campaign [for] new volunteers capable of quickly and safely responding to emergencies in the area.”

The competitive grants are administered through the Department of Homeland Security and were requested by Schumer, according to the release.
