LI musicians named newest Tilles Scholars

A group of talented young musicians from Long Island have been named the newest Tilles Scholars.

The six students received financial support to participate in the 2011 C.W. Post Chamber Music Festival, which took place July 11 to 29. They aced a grueling competition that involved auditioning for C.W. Post faculty and the director of the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts.

The scholars are Valerie Chen, 11, a cellist from Syosset; Andrew Wee, 14, a violinist from Locust Valley; Megan Lyons, 16, a flutist from Greenlawn; Kenta Nomura, 11, a violinst from Jericho; Justine Wong, 17, a cellist from Rockville Centre; and Christine Suh, 12, a violinist from Great Neck.

The festival is an annual three-week intensive program focusing on the study and performance of chamber music. It features a chamber orchestra, master classes, seminars, a concerto competition and musicianship classes.
