MANHASSET: The right lane is closed on Route 25a in both directions between Route 101 and Glen Cove Road due to road construction.

HOLBROOK: There is construction work on the LIE service road westbound Patchogue Holbrook Road.


Friday will be partly cloudy in the morning, then clear with a high of 70. Clouds will return in the evening with a low of 54.

Warm weather continues into the weekend, with Saturday seeing partly cloudy skies and a high of 70.


In 1978, the New York Yankees beat the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the 75th World Series Championship. It was the 22nd World Series win for the team, who beat the Dodgers in only four games. Today in 1978 also marked the first of a 23-game winning streak for the New York Islanders.

Comedian Stephen Colbert's satirical political talk show "The Colbert Report" first aired on this date in 2005. Colbert will be taking over for late-night talk show host David Letterman upon his retirement in 2015.

For those who really want to take advantage of "Casual Friday," Oct. 17 is also Wear Something Gaudy Day, a holiday inspired by 1970s sitcom character Larry Dallas on television show "Three's Company."
