Newsday readers in the midst of the massive Long Island Rail Road disruptions as a result of an equipment fire today are sending in their observations.
Here’s one from dropkick_molly:
Conductors opened the windows on the train after the LIRR cut 3rd rail power. We were stuck a few hundred yards from Jamaica for about 2 hours. They eventually sent [workers] out to do something to all the switches so we could slowly move into jamaica and unload. At one point LIRR emergency services officers boarded the stalled train and walked to the back.
After all lines, except the Port Washington branch, were halted, the LIRR says limited service has begun for the evening rush.
