The Long Island Rail Road has added 10 extra trains to help holiday travelers get home early Friday and also on Christmas Eve.

The additional service on six LIRR branches from Penn Station begins at 12:46 p.m. and runs through 3:48 p.m. both days.

“So if you’re traveling for the holiday and want to get an early start or do last minute shopping, the LIRR is the way to go,” the railroad said in a statement.

Because the LIRR expects many of its riders to take advantage of the earlier trains, it is also combining two closely scheduled evening trains into one on the Babylon line.

The 5:50 p.m. will be canceled and customers will be accommodated by the 6:05 p.m. train.
