The Long Island Rail Road is beefing up its service to the Hamptons for the summer, including bringing back reserve seating on the Cannonball to Montauk, with stops in Hampton Bays and Amagansett.

The Cannonball is a Friday-only express train with no stops between Jamaica and Westhampton. Commuters can board at Penn Station at 3:58 p.m, at Atlantic Terminal at 3:56 p.m. or Hunterspoint Avenue at 4:06 p.m. The trip to Montauk is just under three hours.

The fare in the two reserve-seat cars is $37, about twice the one-way, off-peak price of $18.75 that applies to the rest of the cars. Passengers in the reserve-seat cars get a guaranteed seat and attendants who sell drinks and snacks.

Reservations can be made online at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority website or by calling 718-217-5477.

The railroad will also be adding three more Friday eastbound trains to Montauk, two westbound Sunday trains and one eastbound train on Monday morning.

Two eastbound and westbound trains are being added on the North Fork as well, restoring weekend service to and from Greenport.

The summer schedule begins on Sunday and ends with the Oct. 10 Monday train from Montauk.
