Long Beach residents who wish to dispose of Christmas trees can do so from Dec. 27 through Feb. 1.

Tree pickup can be scheduled by calling the city Sanitation Department at 516-432-3132. Once an appointment is made, a "tree truck" will take the trees on regularly scheduled garbarge collection days, which are Mondays and Thursdays on the city's east end and Tuesdays and Fridays on the west end.

Trees must not be placed in plastic bags, and lights, tinsel and other decorations must be removed, the Sanitation Department says. The trees will be recycled into compost.
